Obituary of Mary Helen Valentine

Mary H. (Zetzl) Valentine was born April 16, 1963, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and went home to the Lord on Thursday, January 11, 2024. She was the daughter of Alfred and Ruth (Sitzman) Zetzl.

Mary was the beloved wife of Paul Valentine for 32 years; loving mother of Dominic (Sarah) Valentine and Clara (John) Fox; and beloved grandmother of Vincent Valentine. She is survived by her dad Alfred Zetzl; sister, Rose Ann (Tim) Shilson; sister, Kathy (Yancy) Stults; and brother David Zetzl. Preceding her in death was her mom, Ruth Zetzl and sister, Donna Zetzl.

Mary had a very kind and giving heart, putting others before herself. While raising her family, she became involved in many outreach ministries. Mary volunteered at her children’s schools and served as PTO president. She was a Sunday school teacher. Mary had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. Her kindness, loyalty, generosity and humor were witnessed by all.

Mary’s vibrant spirit extended to her creative pursuits, showcasing her talent in arts and crafts. From personalized birthday and Christmas cards to thoughtful notes, her love touched everyone. Mary also enjoyed painting plaster, crochet, cross-stitch, and a variety of crafts.

Visitation for Mary Valentine will be Monday, January 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis. The funeral Mass will be Tuesday, January 23, 10 a.m., at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 5301 W. 16th St., Speedway. Interment in West Ridge Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.

Those wishing to make donations in Mary’s memory may direct them to the Needle Network group at Community South Auxiliary, 1402 E. County Line Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46227. Donations of yarn can be brought to the main entrance of the hospital and given to the volunteers in the large circular desk.
