Obituary of Barbara Schmink
Barbara D. Farkas Schmink Age 91, of Carmel, Indiana, has gone to meet her Heavenly Father. She was born to the late Alexander and Barbara Farkas January 29, 1919, and was preceded in death by her husband; Herman A. Schmink, daughter; Janice Marie Wilson, brothers; Alexander, Blaine and Stephen Farkas. During the 1930's she worked at Real Silk Hosiery Mills as a seamer. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Speedway, for many years where she served in the Legion of Mary. After she moved to Carmel, she joined Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and was a member of the "Rosary For Peace" Program. She also belonged to the Carmel Shepherd Center for Senior Citizens, where she served as their Cheer Chairman. Mrs. Schmink was a dedicated volunteer for the Red Cross as a Gray Lady Chairman for the Roudebush V.A. Hospital. She was also the Residential Vice-Chairman for United Fund for 7 years. As a gifted artist and member of the Indianapolis Art League, she spent many years creating beautiful oil paintings and giving free art classes at the Christmas Clearing Bureau, Sue Emma Coleman Home, Mary Dale Home for unwed mothers, Capitol Avenue Home for the Aged, St. Elizabeth's Home, V.A. Hospital and the Women's Prison. Mrs. Schmink was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Of all her accomplishments, she was most proud of her family and leaves them all with wonderful memories. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Dan) McQuinn; her sister, Hermina Hruban; son-in-law, Robert Wilson; Grandchildren, Julie, Michael and Carl (Andi) Wilson, Jay (Kathy) and Nicholas Bowman, Angela Roudebush; step-grandchildren, Holly (Rick) Martin and Todd McQuinn; 19 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. A showing and service will be held at Stevens Mortuary & Family Center, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis, on Saturday, October 2nd, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. with a 1 p.m. service followed by a graveside service at Floral Park Cemetery.
