Obituary of Barbara Lou Lathrop

Barbara Lou (Harding) Lathrop, 82, passed away on August 5, 2023 at Traditions at Reagan Park in Avon, Indiana.

She was born in Gerald, Indiana on September 27, 1940 to Leo and Callie (Schraner) Harding.

Barbara was united in marriage to Richard (Sookie) Allen Lathrop on April 11, 1964, at Holy Trinity Church in Haughville, Indiana. They shared 59 years together and started their marriage in Indianapolis where they had 4 boys. They traded the city for life at the lake when they moved to Heritage Lake. They later moved to Derby, Indiana for retirement. She returned to Indianapolis with her husband Richard to spend time with their family.


Barbara enjoyed going to family gatherings especially New Years and Thanksgiving, going to Vegas for the yearly sibling trip. Richard and Barb spent a lot of time traveling, visiting all 50 states as well as Japan, Iceland and Hong Kong while visiting their son, Ryan. Barbara’s pride and joy were her sons and grandchildren. She also loved her horses, dogs and peacock as well as gardening.


She is survived by her husband Richard Lathrop, sons Greg Lathrop (Michelle), Brian Lathrop, Senior Master Sergeant Ryan Lathrop (Ester) and Keith Lathrop (Courtney); grandchildren, Christopher Lathrop (Janet), Sarah Lathrop, Rachel Lathrop, Kyla Lathrop and Caeden Lathrop; and great-grandchildren, Leo and Jamison Lathrop; sisters and brothers; Loretta Niemeier, Lauren Harding, Lana Remmetter, Lonnie Harding (Margie), Danny Harding (Pam), Leona Oliver(Rick).


Preceding her in death were her parents; Leo and Callie Harding, sisters, Eva Blair, Mary Frances Janeway, Melba Harding, Sandy Bauer.


Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM EST Friday, August 11, with a visitation from 5:00 PM until time of service, at Steven’s Mortuary. Barbara will be cremated with a catholic service at a later date in Perry County.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Harding Cemetery Fund (11957 Urban Rd., Derby, In 47525) or the charity of your choice.
