Obituary of Gene Terry Locker

Gene Terry Locker of Indianapolis peacefully passed away on June 30, 2023, at the age of 86 surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories. Gene will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Gene was born on January 31, 1937, to Ione and Gene Locker in New Castle, Indiana. He grew up surrounded by the love of his parents and siblings, Nevah, Jetta, and Bill. 

A 1955 graduate of Crawfordsville High School, Gene joined the Marine Corps and followed that with a long career as a carpenter and construction superintendent. Gene had a special love for the Fort Worth area of Texas and lived there during various periods of his life. He was an avid tennis player, gardener, fisherman, and reader. In later years he enjoyed working at the voting polls in Marion County as an election judge. 

Gene was an adult convert to the Catholic faith with a special devotion to the rosary. His faith was an integral part of his life, providing him with strength, guidance, and solace. He found great comfort in his relationship with God and the teachings of the Catholic Church. He also served as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion to the sick and homebound and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Gene found immeasurable joy as a father to his children, Elizabeth (Tracy), Christina (Stephen), Michael (Amy), Gregory, and Sarah (Jacob). Gene also held a special place in his heart for his nephew Matthew (Caro), whose presence brought him joy and added richness to his life.

Gene's memory will be forever cherished by his grandchildren, Jacob (Shawnia), Abbey, Nicholas, Alexandra, Sarah, Thea, Isabella, and great-grandchild, Percy. His impact on their lives will continue to inspire and guide them as they navigate life's journey.

Gene was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ione and Gene, as well as his infant son, Gregory. Though they are no longer with us, their memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved them.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 6th at 10:30 am  at the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, located at 3354 W. 30th St., Indianapolis, IN 46222-2183. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:00 am with recitation of the rosary at 10:00. Luncheon will follow the Mass. Burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Crawfordsville following the luncheon. 

In honoring Gene Terry Locker's life, we celebrate his unwavering love for family, his zest for life, his deep Catholic faith, and the countless lives he touched with his compassion and kindness. He leaves behind a profound legacy that will be cherished for generations to come.
