Obituary of William Masterson

William Grover Masterson 86, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Aug. 20, 2010. He was born in 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio to William G. and Nellie Masterson. He was graduated from St. Ignatius High School (Cleveland), attended John Carroll University and earned a B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Detroit. In World War II William served in the U.S. Army's 358th Engineers under General Omar N. Bradley. At age 19 he participated in the Liberation of France, landing on Omaha Beach, Normandy, on D-Day 11. He was employed as an engineer for 32 years with General Motors in Cleveland, OH, Warren, MI, and Indianapolis, IN. In retirement he became interested in genealogy and with the help of computer technology he indexed 17 books of Irish records pertaining to areas of Ireland associated with his family. He made these available to genealogy libraries and interested individuals. He was a member of St. Christopher Church, Speedway, IN. Survivors are his wife, Josephine; daughters, Jean T. Masterson, D.P.M (J. Carter Williams), La Salle, CO., Mary Alice Cataldo (John), Birmingham, MI; grandchildren, Mary Katherine Dowdy (Tyler), John Reed Cataldo, Paige Welby Cataldo; sister, Mary Jane Masterson, C.S.J. of Cleveland, OH, and many nephews and nieces. Preceding him in death in 2009 was his son, William Gregory Masterson. Local arrangements were entrusted to Stevens Mortuary & Family Center, Indpls, IN.
