Obituary of Richard Johns
Richard Lee Johns 72, of Indianapolis, passed away February 7, 2011. Richard worked for 35 years for the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier. He was a lifetime member (Captain of WTFD Sta. 9) of the Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department during the 1970's. He also was a member of The Bridgeport Masonic Lodge for several years. Along with his wife, he loved working with and following the Ben Davis Marching Giants, of which all their children were members, from 1974 thru 1989, and stayed involved beyond those years. Preceding him in death is his wife of almost 52 years, Sharon Kay (Smith) Johns. Survivors include his children, Holly Johns Blake, Rolly (Paula) Johns, Susan (Charlie) Johns Cutsinger, Kevin (Toni) Johns, and Jennifer Johns; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and his beloved dog Teddy. Visitation for Richard will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m. in Stevens Mortuary and Family Center, 5520 W. 10th St. Indianapolis. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Floral Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in loving memory of Sharon Johns to the ALS Association, Indianapolis Chapter. www.stevensmortuary.net
