Obituary of Maria Vilma Chavez
Maria Vilma Chavez beloved Mother of five, died Wednesday May 4th, 2022, at Hendricks Hospital in Brownsburg Indiana, surrounded by her family. She was 73 years old. She enjoyed going by Vilma.
Maria came from humble beginnings, born in San Salvador, El Salvador. She left during the Civil War in the late 70’s and sought asylum in the United States. She would later in life become a citizen of the United States of America. Although she only had a 6th grade education from a 3rd world country, she continued her education by going to night school and learning the English language while keeping 2 jobs to support her family.
In her early life, Maria loved music and dancing. She was an enchanting woman and often stole the spotlight at parties. She lived life to the fullest in these times, making others laugh, feel welcome and included through conversation were social skills she excelled at. She had an infectious smile and a giving compassionate heart. She had more friends than could often be counted from various parts of her life.
As she grew into the middle parts of her life, she had come close to death several times, the last of which was her pancreas failing, causing her to have to live a diabetic life after. By her late 50’s she had found God. She taught Sunday school at her Church for many years, it brought her joy and created many relationships that continue to this day. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s not too long after her 65th birthday. She was cared for by her daughter Alba Susan Cativo (Sue Robinson), shortly after her diagnosis.
As time progressed and her illnesses took more of her, we as a family did not have the resources to care for her full time. She spent the last 10 months at Brooke Knoll village in Avon. She caught an infection that quickly and aggressively traveled into her blood stream. The Doctors at Brownsburg hospital could not find the source of the infection. The infection sent her into kidney failure. 18 hours later she was no longer in the realm of the living. Maria is survived by her five children: Martha, Alba, Irsi, Alan and Eric. As well as 4 Brothers and 5 Sisters.
