Obituary of Janie A. Rightnour
Janie (Wallace) Rightnour passed away peacefully on February 14, 2022 at Traditions at Reagan Park. She was 87 years old.
Janie was born in Boone County and was the eldest of eight children. When the family moved to a farm in Jamestown, she fell in love with the boy next door, her future husband, Everett. She and Everett were married in 1958 and moved to Duluth, MN while Everett served in the Air Force. Eventually, life took them to Speedway, where they raised their daughters: Carla J. Conway (Jay Conway) of Speedway; and Lora R. Davis (Rick Davis) of Phoenixville, PA.
Janie worked in a variety of jobs throughout her life, but the common thread – whether it was as an Avon Lady, ticket sales at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, or babysitting – was her desire to help others. She served her community through her involvement with Psi Iota Xi, a women's philanthropic organization.
Janie truly had the gift of hospitality and made everyone feel welcomed. She enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings for the extended Wallace family. While she decked out the house for every holiday, she rejoiced in Christmas. She loved to bake, and her Christmas cookies and fudge were shared with neighbors, friends and loved ones. Everyone looked forward to a cookie platter from her! She loved “her” Colts and got to fulfill a dream in her eighties by rooting them on in person with her brother.
When she became “Mom-mom” to Ian, she delighted in showing her grandson all things Indy: the Children’s Museum, the State Fair, the Indianapolis Ice Hockey games, and touring the Track.
Janie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was blessed in her final years to receive wonderful care and companionship by the staff of Westside Garden and Traditions at Reagan Park in addition to the loving and devoted care of her daughter Carla.
