"Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee." Psalm 143:8 KJV
Sharon L. Grinston Parson and Family
Condolences to Barcilisa Aguon's family, Ana Perez and families, Francisco Reyes and families, Juana Reyes Quichocho and families, Nicolasa Reyes Acosta and families and to Buzzy and family for our loss of a wonderful woman, Rosalia. "Liang", as she is fondly known by family, was not just a cousin but also a dear friend to me. We have shared many sweet memories growing up and in our adult lives.
When we would talk on the phone, many times she would sing to me. She never forgot the Catholic hymns in our native language, Chamorro. Liang was a strong and faith-filled woman. She was always ready to give such sound advice when needed. And in this regard, she truly was like a big sister to me.
Whenever she visited Guam, it was usually to bury a family member. But we always enjoyed wonderful conversations and moments together. She would remember everyone's birthday, too. That was just the kind of thoughtful woman she was. She had a very vivacious spirit and loved to dance...and boy was she was a good dancer!
The last time she came to Guam for my mother's passing in 1991, we took her for a trip around the island. During the ride, she would retell stories about the island and even the war. She never forgot her roots and was so knowledgable and intelligent about her island home. We are a family of 11 and she made sure to write down the names of all our children, as if she were creating a mental scrapbook of her family here in Guam.
The week she died and prior to her death, I kept thinking of her. I wanted to call, but didn't want to wake her due to the time difference between Guam and Indiana. I sent her a card during Thanksgiving, but it was returned due to incorrect address. I'm sad that she didn't get to know that I was thinking of her during the holidays. But as connected as we were, I'm hopeful she knew that she was in my thoughts. I'm truly grateful to have known and loved this beautiful person in this lifetime. Liang, my cousin, my sister, my friend, may you rest peacefully and rise sweetly in the splendor of God's love until we get to meet, sing and laugh with each other again.
Thank you, Buzzy, for taking good care of her. May you find comfort in the memories Liang has etched in your heart.
In loving remembrance,
Mading, Kin and family
Auntie Liang was like a mother to my mom, Fina. She never failed to send me a birthday card when I was growing up. And when I started a family of my own, her Christmas card was always one of the first I would receive. She sent one every year up until she was no longer able to. She was one of the few people that I would actually print our vacation photos for because I knew how brilliant she was and how she would know exactly where we were on our travels. When we would talk over the phone she would even educate me on the places we had visited. I could always rely on her to pray for us and she made sure to tell me that she would. I will always remember the sound of her voice and how she sang! I have told her on many occasions how grateful I was for her presence in my mother's life. She was a good Catholic woman who I know my mother could turn to, to guide her in her faith. I would like to give my deepest condolences to those who loved her, to her brothers and sisters in Christ, and most especially to Uncle Buzzy. Uncle Buzzy thank you for nurturing her Catholic faith and being her love throughout the years. May you always find comfort knowing she is eternally resting in peace.
You all may have known her as Rosely or Rosalia, but to us she was Auntie Liang (pronounced LEE-ANG).
We all know that God will take us someday, but your sudden passing was unexpected. We all are thankful that he took you peacefully, without suffering or pain. Although it is extremely hard to accept this sudden death, like your sister Barcey and your brother Frank, we thank the Lord that he was able to wrap his arms around you so quickly and guide you to your eternal resting place with all the other angels. You are like my 2nd mom and in this moment I can still picture being with you in the living room singing our Catholic Chamorro songs. You always had the prettiest voice and was able to sing to the Lord in different languages. I will miss our talks and visits with you and Uncle Buzzy.
Our family is most thankful for Uncle Buzzy and the loving companionship he has shown you throughout the years. Auntie Liang, we will miss you, we love you so much and we know you are resting in peace.
With Love from thousands of miles away on the Island of Guam,
Your Niece Fina
