Montgomery is survived by his wife, Leona Madden and his sons, Gary and Gregory Madden; grandchildren Miranda, Mackinzie, and Austin; and great grandson Dane. He is preceded in death by his son, Dana Madden; his brothers Hubert, Bruce, Harvey, Carl, Noah Jr., Willus, and Orville; and sisters Dophia, Mary Belle, and Gladys. Montgomery was born at Rockhouse, Leslie County, Kentucky on November 22nd of 1936 to Noah and Ada Madden. He started working as a boy, doing chores around the homestead and in the fields, cutting lumber, and riding a mule to deliver mail to the remote hollows of Kentucky. Eventually he followed his brother to Indianapolis where he took a job working alongside Bruce for Asplundh Tree Experts. It was through a work acquaintance he met Leona, and eventually the two married. Montgomery worked his way up to the position of General Foreman with Asplundh. Over the next thirteen years the couple welcomed two children into their home. His children remember him as a industrious and hard working father who encouraged them to strive to achieve their goals. Montgomery enjoyed bowling with his wife and family and was an avid outdoorsman who spent a great deal of time in the woods hunting and fishing. He was a witty individual who loved telling humorous stories about his past, his life in rural Kentucky, and his brothers and sisters. A funeral is scheduled for 11 AM at Stevens Mortuary. Pastor Mike Biggs will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to celebrate Montgomery’s life by attending the visitation from 9 AM until time of service, but only 50 people may stay in attendance for services. Condolences can be sent to Leona at her home. The family would like to thank the caregivers and hospital staff at IU West for their care and dedication and a special thanks to Wayne Tago of Stevens Mortuary for his kind and patient guidance.
