Obituary of Cathleen Anne Mattozzi

Cathleen Anne Mattozzi, 61, of Avon, IN, passed away on February 11, 2021, at home peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Cathy was born to George and Anne (Earl) Cariglio in Warren, Ohio. After graduating from Newton Falls High School, Cathy eventually moved to California, where she had her only child, a daughter, before moving to Avon, Indiana. Once, in Avon, she started working for Maple Elementary, where she had a 20-year career before retiring in 2019. At Maple, she dawned the nicknames of Ms. "Tozi", and "Fountain of Knowledge". She especially enjoyed field day and boxcar races at Maple, in addition to developing life long friendships while there. In August 2014, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Even with a devastating diagnosis, she persevered, fought hard, and continued on saying “I got this”. She participated in Breast Cancer walks and events, made jewelry to help raise money for breast cancer research, and was a loved and valued part of her LiveStrong group. She was a warrior, a fighter, a role model, and a true inspiration to many. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anne Cariglio. She leaves behind her daughter Holli Anne Mattozzi, father George Cariglio, siblings Joseph Cariglio, Carol (Rich) Wolfe, James (Diette) Cariglio, and Jeffrey (Melissa) Cariglio, as well as beloved nephews and nieces, Ryan, Jessi, Jenna, Kate, Matt, and Nick. Cathy will always be remembered for being caring, loving, generous, and selfless, amongst many other fond qualities. A cremation memorial gathering will be held at Steven's Mortuary in Indianapolis on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 11am-1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in memory of Cathy.
