Please join us at 12:00 PM Monday, December 21, 2020 to watch the live stream service for William by copying and pasting this site to your browser https://my.gather.app/family/william-currier Obituary for William Ray Currier Survived by wife Mary Ann Grimm Currier, daughter Deborah Currier Racster, son Kenneth Ray Currier, granddaughters Casey Jo Currier, Elizabeth Stetson, Abigail Stein, and grandson Isaac Currier Racster. Pre-deceased by brother Donald Floyd Currier. Parents Frank Jones Currier and Josephine Rose Bickell. Born in Gary Indiana, Bill was tall and strong, He was All-Calumet Conference in 3 sports, and an integral part of the 1950's "Hoosier Basketball Hysteria," playing on the Griffith High School basketball team. Bill was recruited to University of Alabama on a basketball scholarship. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society. He graduated with a bachelors of science degree in Industrial Engineering, in the top 5% of the class in the school of engineering. He was an avid supporter of all things, especially sports, from the University of Alabama. One of his favorite sayings, "Roll Tide!" In 1953, William married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Grimm. They were deeply devoted to each other throughout their years together. His many handmade cards and poems to her spoke of that love and devotion. He was a loving father and grandfather, and could be found frequently on the floor engaging in play with his grandchildren. Bill served in the US Army, Corps of Engineers, 2 years active duty during the Korean conflict, followed by 8 years in the US Army Reserve. Bill worked in the heating and air conditioning industry, with Bohn Refrigeration and Bryant/UTC Carrier, for over 55 years, retiring at the age of 75. In 1988 a patent was issued to the Carrier Corporation, in William's name, for his development of an important coil assembly component. Inspired by his mother's example, William was a life-long learner, seeking new experiences and new understanding in his life. In 1974, realizing his need for more than work success to define his personal fulfillment, he gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His life was changed, his habits changed and he worked diligently to walk faithfully with Jesus. William said, in his testimony, he realized after 40 years of climbing the ladder of success in life, his ladder was leaning on the wrong wall. He knew he needed to find God's wall for a new way of life. Bill knew little of the Bible, but knew the answers to living a holy life were contained in the Bible. He loved to study and teach from the Holy Scripture, and was an avid supporter of his church. William entered hospice care in April of 2019. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff at Eagle Valley Meadows Skilled Nursing Center for their kind and loving care. Thanks and gratitude are also extended to Kindred Hospice. Due to Covid-19 the family extends an invitation to join them for a livestream webcast of William's funeral at https://my.gather.app/remember/william-currier on Monday, December 21, 2020 @ 12:00PM.
