Obituary of Vedus Mosby

After a long and arduous battle with congestive heart disease, Vedus Arlene Mosby (90) passed peacefully away while sleeping on December 11th. She was born on February 11, 1930 and raised on a farm near Edmonton, Kentucky. In 1947 she married Dave Mosby, and they moved to Indianapolis in 1950. Arlene worked for over 30 years in the bookbinding business, then retired. She soon tired of retirement and became a part-time cashier for Dollar General until a bad back forced her to retire again at age 82. She spent the next 8 years, with the help of her close friend and companion Michael Van Buskirk, tending to her family, her flowers, and her home, all the while holding off the cruel disease that has now taken her life. So we must say goodbye to a wonderful mother, a tireless caregiver, an extraordinary cook, a supportive family member, and a loyal and true friend. Although she will be painfully missed, her quiet dignity, her sense of humor and responsibility, and her genuine interest in the well-being of everyone she came to know will live in the hearts and memories of those of us who love her. She was preceded in death by her husband Dave Mosby who died in 1998 after 51 years of marriage, and by her sister Christine Harris and her brothers Charles and Truman Jessee and Delaine England. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Hanner, her son Tim Mosby (Nancy), her grandsons Brent (Whitney) and Brian (Megan and her great grand children Grady, Kate, Bodie, and Lauren, and by her sister Elsie Parks. She also leaves behind her good friend Mike who cared for her and made her laugh during a time when laughter was not easily found. A graveside service will be held at Floral Park at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Donations in lieu of flowers, may be made to American Heart Association or St. Jude Hospital.
