Obituary of Joseph Patrick Sweeney
Joseph Patrick Sweeney, 26, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away from natural causes on December 9, 2020. Joseph was born August 2, 1994 in Indianapolis. He is survived by his parents, Patrick and Alice Sweeney, brothers Daniel and Collin, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joseph attended St. Christopher Catholic School in Speedway and was a 2013 graduate of Cardinal Ritter High School. Joseph was a 4-year member of the football team at Cardinal Ritter. He was Academic All State, on the Colts Academic All-Star team, and a recipient of the Indiana Football Foundation Scholar Athlete award. His senior year he was a member of the state runner-up football team and was the recipient of the Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award for Class 2A Football. Joseph was class salutatorian, a National Merit finalist, and a member of the 2011 Championship Brain Game team as well as the 2012 runner up Brain Game team. He was named an Indiana Academic All Star in 2013.
Joseph was also a 10-year member of Marion County 4-H. He was the State and National 4-H Electric Challenge winner in 2010, and a 4-year member of the State 4-H Band.
Joseph was a 2017 graduate with distinction from Purdue University in Electrical and Computer Engineering. At Purdue he was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the Purdue Concert Band and was a Presidential Scholar.
Joseph was a software engineer for Google in Chicago. Prior to that he was a software engineer at Milliman in Indianapolis. During his time at Purdue, he interned at Bloomberg LP in New York, and Texas Instruments in Santa Clara, CA and Dallas.
