Mrs. Gayle Meichelle Jones, the daughter of William F. Jones and Dorothy Mae DeGraphenreed Jones, was born March 2, 1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a young lady she attended William A. Bell, school 60 and Crispus Attucks High School. Gayle accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. In later years, she became a member of Second Christian Church. Gayle also attended Harding Street Church of God, under the leadership of Elder James Hazelwood. On July 14, 1967, Gayle gave birth to her one and only child. A daughter, Verlita Donnette Hughes, and from the very beginning she became the apple of Gayle’s eye, the very beat of her heart, her ride or die, confidant, and best friend. On December, 18, 1998 Gayle was united in Holy Matrimony to Paul L. Jones Jr. Their union lasted 21 years, 5 months, until the day of her passing. Affectionately known as, Mommy, Grandma, Legs, and the Boss. Gayle was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, and Friend. Gayle was a caregiver and disciplinarian to her family. Following in the footsteps of her late aunt, Corrine, Gayle also had a whistle to gather the troops of family and friends. When you heard it, you knew she meant business and you were to come running. In her younger years she would go skating with her Sister, and Cousins at the Schofield Skating rink. Gayle loved to play cards, dance, and just have all around fun. She was a straight to the point person. If thought to ask her something, she would tell you the truth about it, if you didn’t want to know, don’t ask. She will be missed by so many. Gayle’s Father, William Foster Jones, Mother, Dorothy Mae DeGraphenreed Jones, Sister, Deandra Jean Jones Porter, Uncle James Bell DeGraphenreed, Uncle Fort DeGraphenreed III, and a devoted Aunt, Corrine DeGraphenreed Davis, all preceded her in death. Gayle Meichelle “The Boss” Jones was called home to Glory on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at the age of 70 years, 2 months and five days. She leaves to cherish her memory; husband Paul L Jones Jr; brothers, Ronald L. Jones and Michael Jones; daughter, Verlita Donnette Hughes; granddaughters, Tarivia A. Mitchell (lla) and TeAndra M Banks; grandchildren, Amir LaRoss Mitchell, Bralen Emon King, and Jahiya Symore Baker; Aunt DeAndra DeGraphenreed of Indianapolis, and Uncle William DeGrahenreed of Albans, New York; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
