Condolences
Doug was a truly special human being. He was no doubt one of my very favorite people to work with at Avon Menards over the 8 years I was there. Doug was a genuine, hard-working, and humble leader. He was always willing to do anything to help his team members. He lead by example and was right there in the trenches with the hardest workers. I always got a kick out of his quirky personality, his speedy walking (and abrupt stops to look at me when he passed an aisle I was in), and his hieroglyphic-like to-do lists. Doug had that special ability to put a smile on anyone's face he was interacting with and make them laugh. He was so funny.
On my last day, I asked Doug if he would let me on the roof, because I had never been up there. Of course, Doug said sure. We spent about 5-10 minutes up there looking around and talking. It was a special experience for me, as I was closing the Menards chapter of my life, and I will never forget that. Even in the years after I left, there were a few times I came into the store and was fortunate enough to see Doug. Each time he dropped what he was doing to take some time to catch up with me. I'm thankful for that.
Rest in peace, Dougie Fresh. I'm really going to miss you.
Love,
Phizzle
I’m going to miss Doug very much! I will miss his funny jokes and pranks and how he would always call me “Captain Underpants “ since my last name is Underwood. He was the best manager I’ve ever had. I’m praying for his family during this difficult time. RIP Doug, you will be missed dearly.
I knew him only through his work. He was a most impressive manager. Kind hearted. Really head and shoulders above the others. I was greatly saddened to hear the news. I will miss him.
I considered myself lucky to have Doug as my friend. During our 2 tours of duty together with Menards at Crestwood and Greenwood, they are some of my fondest memories. Doug was a man who I always tried to align myself with, when it came to prioritizing things in life – Commitment to family and work. Doug was unparalleled at both. His smile/smirk and laugh always made my day better. He never said “No, it can’t be done”, but instead “When do we start”. He will be dearly missed. I do not have the words of sympathy to properly convey my sorrow for your loss. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with your family.
With deepest condolences,
Shane Knoblett
I worked with Doug for 13 months at Avon and 3 months closing down the old Indy East store. Doug was a great man. I learned so much from him. He was never in a bad mood and always gave 150 percent effort. Always had a joke for you and he loved his slushies. Sports and Disney world was his thing, but most off all his Family. He loved his Family and that reflected his day to day smile. Rest in peace Doug. You will be missed!!
Was sad to hear the news of Doug's passing. I grew up with Doug and attended school with him from kindergarten on through to high school. We played many neighborhood sports together while growing up and while I remember Doug as a man of few words he was one thing - reliable. He was always there, never late and did his part, plus he had a great fade-a-way shot from the right baseline that was tough to guard as I recall. Rest in Peace Doug!
It hardly seems possible that Doug has been called home. A fine man, who always put his best foot forward. May his family and friends share the memories of his life as a reminder that love holds them forever together. My deepest sympathy. Sylvia Perteete
Doug, was an Amazing man and friend! I enjoyed working with Doug at Menards! He always had a smile on his face especially when he pulled pranks on you! Doug, you will never be forgotten and you will be missed. To your family you leave behind I pray they find comfort during this time.
Doug wasn't just loved by everyone, he was respected. I don't say that lightly. Doug was in management, but he was a worker first. No one worked longer or harder than Doug daily. He got his hands dirty and sweated along with everyone he worked with, all the while keeping a light and fun environment. I think anyone who worked for him considered him a friend, more than a boss. He was a rare breed that will be missed by those he worked with and countless members of the shopping public.I can't imagine the number of people he touched and helped in 26 years with Menard's. He always had a great smile and a happy face for everyone.(and anyone that has worked in retail knows, that's not easy) I am glad to have known and worked with him.
Start by thanking you God for allowing doug and I to meet up in life.Working the past twelve years with him at menards has been a great joy and honor.he was not only a great manager, but a great friend,he was someone all enjoyed being around.Ill always remember his great personality and the nickname he always called me(Tedder).God has taken you away from us for now,but we will all meet again someday when he calls for us. Family, I pray you can find peace in your hearts,God iam sure has big plans for doug, be strong, and courageous, don't be afraid, don't be discourage, for the lord God will be with you wherever you go.We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his pupose, blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted.God Bless you doug rest in peace my friend.
Doug was by far my favorite person to work with. He was genuinely kind and caring. He will be very missed.
I worked with Doug at the Avon Menards. I don't know of anyone there who didn't love Doug. He was the favorite GM. He was a very special man and he will be dearly missed. I hope to see you again one day my friend. I love you, Peppermint
I worked with Doug he was such a blessing to be around he was always there to lend a helping hand. He was a great man to be around he had so much joy in his heart to share with everyone he could make you laugh even if you were having a bad day you will be greatly missed by me and others Rest In Peace
Doug was like an uncle to me. He was always finding ways to make me laugh and I hated when he had the day off because I knew it was going to be a boring day. He used to call me when I was at my desk and poke his head or his belly out from behind a beam or shelf and say "I see you" and make me find him. If you needed him, he always made time for you. If it was a work problem or a personal problem he would give you his undivided attention. I have never met a manager or coworker than genuinely cared for the people he worked with as much as Doug did. He clearly has touched so many lives, he will be missed by so many people.
How can one person hold so much love and kindness to others without asking for much in return. This was Doug, he was the most knowledgeable worker at menards and always helped everyone with a smile. He was always good for pulling a joke and a good laugh. You could be in the back of the store by him and by the time you walked up to the front of the store, he had already been up there a few minutes taking care of an employee concern or guest. Doug had one speed... Go! Over the 20 years of working with co- workers they become family, Doug was the family member everyone (ever worked at menards) would want to be around. He called me "frizzy" from our early years of my hair under humidity.. Doug loved everyday doing what he does best, helping people and being happy. Keeping smiling in heaven Doug! You will forever impact the lives of those you were around. I'm personally forever grateful. Prayers to the Weeks family for healing. Doug Weeks is such a hero to many. RIP
Dough was my GM at the Avon store! Loved him dearly. His family was in my thoughts and prayers! RWL dough you will deeply missed by many!!
I’m not even sure where to start. There are too many good things to be said about Doug to even put into words. I have worked with Doug from the day he started working at Avon menards. I thought of him as more of a family member than a manager. He would always take the time to talk to me about my family and ask how everything was going, he would always make sure the fridge in the front of the store was stocked with my favorite drink, he would make fun of my pants when I wore capris and ask if it was flooding outside and he never missed a chance to walk up and scare the living daylights out of me. I am going to miss every bit of it so much. He was the glue that held the store together, the one everyone would hope to see when they walked through the doors. He will be sorely missed and most definitely never forgotten!
It is so very difficult to select words to capture the essence of who George Douglas Weeks is. Not one single day in over 18 years did I ever see Doug fail to make every one and every thing a priority. He helped find solutions to any obstacle and always with a smile on his face. If there was no solution available, he gave you a smile from his heart and apologized for not being able to provide a remedy. Doug was NEVER too busy for his team or his dedicated Menards shoppers. When Doug would talk about his family, he flashed his famous ear-to-ear grin and you could tell that he loved his wife and children deeply. It was crystal clear that his family was his source of strength and encouragement. His family was always truly the reason why he came to work every day ready to tackle what ever was needed. This humble, kind, giving, understanding, compassionate, happy to be alive, forever consistent person will live on forever in the hearts and minds of the thousands of people whose lives were made better just by knowing this remarkable man.
Thank you God for blessing this Earth with George Douglas Weeks and thank you for giving Doug the gifts that he shared with any one person that spent time in his presence. Lord, please hold Doug's family close as they continue their journey of grief and help them to carve a path in their lives in Doug's absence. Absent only in physical presence, for Doug will be with Charissa, Alex and Julia in spirit all of their days here. Most of all God, thank you for making a way for his family to join him again one day with You in Heaven.
I worked with Doig at the Indywest store for about 10 years great Manager. Doug you will truly be missed.. Jackie
I worked with Doug for 6 years at the Avon Menards and he is one of, if not the most enjoyable people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He will be sorely missed by many people.
Doug was one of the few people that I have met, that genuinely care about their employees, that made him a great assistant G.M. He was one of the nicest people have met in this world. He always had a smile for everybody, no matter how stressed out he was. My prayers and deepest condolences go to his family and friends in this difficult time.
The best asst. Manager I've ever worked with, if you were having a bad day he knew how to make you laugh he was always cracking jokes or playing a joke on someone . He will be greatly missed. A good man gone to soon.
I had the pleasure of working for this man at the Avon menards for 3 years getting to know a man that genuinely cared for his employees and had a heart of gold and was always made me smile especially when we were twins with our walking boots together your soul was one of a kind and will forever be missed but never forgotten may you fly high and watch over us all and your soul rest easy big man
I worked with Doug at the Avon Menards, hands down best manager I have had! I can remember one night while closing it was snowing so hard, he took the time to go out and clean off all of our cars so we didn’t have to. Always so very kind and thoughtful! My prayers and deepest sympathy to his family.
I worked with Doug at the Avon store, and what a pleasant, friendly person he was to work with. A fantastic manager and overall great person. My prayers go out to his family and friends. He will surely be missed!
I worked with Doug in Avon, Doug would help you with anything you needed at work . He was a very hard worker and an awesome Assistant GM.He had a heart of gold .I will miss him alot. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and his family. May God give you all peace and comfort during this difficult time.
Doug was like a "work dad" to both myself and my husband. It brightened my day to know that we were on the same shift because I knew everything would go fine if he was there. He always made it a point to ask how I was doing and ask about my husband, who also worked at the same Menards store.
When I had to go back to Indy for a Menards-related case and I saw Doug in the court room (also having worked the shift related to the civil case), it was as if we had gone back in time. He asked how I was, how my husband was, and gave me a hug before we parted ways after the final verdict was delivered.
It broke my heart to hear of his passing, and I cried as if I had lost a father. I'll always remember Doug and his kind heart.
I pray all who knew him are comforted in the warm, loving memories of Doug.
