Obituary of James W. Collins
James W. “Jimi” Collins, 66, of Indianapolis passed away on Monday, January 20, 2020. He was born in Detroit, MI to William Levi and Nancy Marlene Collins (Kelly) on January 27, 1953. Jimi was a friend, father, uncle, papaw, a good man and a darn good mechanic. He could fix anything. He was an expert chess player and member of the United States Chess Federation. He was a good man and great father. He wanted the people he loved to know and understand that he is happy now. Jimi enjoyed history, especially American history, he loved teaching others about American history. He was a good man, a strong man and lived his life his way with no regrets. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald Collins and Roger Collins; sister, Carol Collins; and his ex-wife, Debra Collins-Hadley. Jimi is survived by his daughters, Shawna (Leo) Greenwell, Heather Collins and Ariell R. (Lonnie Wildrick) Collins; grandchildren, Shannon Collins, Areya Collins, Jeremy Collins, Dez Collins, Hannah Collins, Jordyn Collins, and Lonnie and Lyndsey Wildrick; brother, Michael Collins Sr.; sisters, Beverly Edinger, Debra Collins, Nina Jones and Theresa Hammonds; nephews, Michael Collins II, Rodney Collins, Ronald Collins, Timothy Collins, and Scotty (Joseph); nieces, Trina Collins, Jessica Jones and Stephanie Collins; grandmother, Sarah McSweeney who is a 103 years young; and uncle, James (Richard) Kelly. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at American Legion Post 64, 601 S. Holt Road Indianapolis, IN 46241.
