Obituary of Robert E. Brattain

Robert (Bob) E Brattain, 77, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on September 22, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN 46224 with visitation from 10:00 AM until time of service. Interment services will also follow on Saturday at 2:00 PM at Crown Hill Cemetery 700 W 38th St, Indianapolis, IN.

Bob was born in Marion, IN on December 2, 1940 to George & Margaret (Wasson) Brattain, both proceeding him in death. He spent his early childhood on Nyona Lake, north of Peru, IN & Twin Lakes in Niles, MI, which he always talked about fondly. He then moved during his pre-teen years to Indianapolis where he lived for the rest of his life.  He attended Washington High School.  For most of his adult life, he worked at Jenn-Air/Maytag for 30 years until the company relocated to TN in 1996.  He started working on the factory floor as a fork lift operator and tool & die setter.  He was later promoted to press room supervisor.  Then, without any formal, outside education, he was trained to be a manufacturing engineer.  He enjoyed his colleagues & the time he spent at Jenn-Air.  He retired in 2005 after working for MicroMetl as a manufacturing engineer.

He loved the outdoors & enjoyed fishing in his younger days.  He enjoyed bowling, watching IU basketball & had a life-long passion for golf, playing with friends at least once per week for as long as he was able. He won Jenn-Air’s golf league for 3 years as part of the Tool Team.  He was always interested in technology & computers.  He had an extensive CB/radio room at one time.  Before cable television was a common public utility, he owned one of the first large satellite dishes in Indianapolis.  He also enjoyed learning basic computer programming in the early days of home computers.  He was extremely handy around the house & was able to “MacGyver” anything to make things work.

He loved & was devoted to his family & wanted to make sure they were taken care of.

Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vera & their children: son, Mark Brattain(Tonya) of Avon, IN, daughter, Stacey Brattain of Indpls, IN, & his children: son, Robert W Brattain of Indpls, IN, daughter, Connie Goodman-Lynch of Indpls, IN, daughter, Rhonda Brattain of Indpls, IN, daughter Margaret Brattain-Wilson(Tim) of Indpls, IN, 6 grandchildren & 20 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Pinkham, half-brother, Charles Michael Brattain, & granddaughter Amanda Wilson.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Lewy Body Dementia Association.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors & nurses at Methodist Hospital & all the friends & family who have supported him throughout his life.
