Obituary of Dorothea Marie Zore

Dorothea (Dot) Zore, born December 12, 1922, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home of 75 years on September 5, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Geneva Rosner, her spouse, Victor Zore, her son, Victor Zore, Jr., (Virginia), son-in-law, Ellis Holmes, and siblings:  Barney Rosner, Josephine Clark, Margaret Weber, Donald Rosner, Barbara Ann Shelley and Jack Rosner.  A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, she graduated from Speedway High School.  At age 20, she married widower, Victor Zore, and immediately became mother to his three children, aged 1½ to 8 years. Later, two daughters were born into the family.  She is survived by her son, Gerald Zore (Debra); daughters, Nancy Holmes, Sr. Monica Zore, Melissa Hendricks (Steven); grandchildren, Jeffrey Hendricks (JoJo), Jennifer MacLaughlin (Brian), Jessica Hendricks, Meaghan Zore, Matt Zore (Temeka), and Vicki Zore; and great-grandchildren:  Ethan, Emma, Owen, and Olivia Hendricks and Cameron, Parker, and Ian MacLaughlin.

Dorothea nurtured through her gardening and baking, lived with joy by dancing and playing cards, and compassionately cared for the sick and elderly.  She enjoyed a great game of ping-pong and Scrabble.  There was always room and enough food for one more. Her heart and home were ever open to all.   

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, at Stevens Mortuary.  A Celebration of Life Mass is scheduled for Friday, September 21, at 10 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.  At Dorothea’s request, burial at St. Joseph Cemetery is private.

Memorial donations may be offered to the Sisters of Saint Francis Oldenburg or the Victor J. Zore Scholarship Fund at Marian University.
