Obituary of George Joseph Meyer
George was born on November 29, 1926, the son of William and Christine (Nieman) Meyer and grew up in Effingham, IL. While in Effingham, George worked on his family’s 120 acre farm. George enlisted in the US Army, was a Sargent and served on the Island of Luzon in the Philippines at the end of WWII. While traveling and working for Gulf Oil, George married his wife Mabel Jane Meyer Smith. While married, George spent most of those years with Mabel Jane in Cambridge City, IN, where he worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service. George and Mabel Jane moved to Indianapolis in 1995 to be closer to their daughter Georgette. Mabel Jane passed away in 2006. Since retiring and moving to Indy, George worked at the Eagle Hill Driving Range. George is survived by his daughter, Georgette (Phil) Langholz, of Indianapolis, IN; sisters, Alice (Jim) Rhodes of Effingham, Rita Stumborg of Effingham, and Margaret Loudenbeck of Zionsville. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers “Lefty” and Dick Meyer; and sisters, Magdaline Meyer and Anna Gill.
