Obituary of Rev. James D. Whitaker
Rev. James D. Whitaker, 77, of Brownsburg, IN passed away peacefully at his residence on December 6, 2017. James was born in Somerset, KY on January 9, 1940 to Dellen and Etta Whitaker. Rev. Whitaker served as the Pastor for 29 years at New Bethel General Baptist Church. He also led the church in music every Sunday. He played multiple instruments. He also played in several bands throughout his life, Gospel Reflection and Gospel Forerunners. He also worked in lumber sales at Edward Hines Lumber for over 20 years. He owned and operated his own company Big J Trucking and drove a semi-tractor trailer for 7 years. Sunday afternoons he loved to watch the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning. He loved to watch win or lose. He also was a Indiana Pacer fan and also loved to watch them. Rev. Whitaker was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Yvonne Whitaker; son, Harold Whitaker; brothers, Dellen Whitaker Jr., Joey Whitaker and Willard Whitaker. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Gayle Whitaker; sons, Larry Whitaker and Tommy (Tiffany) Hensley; daughters Sheila Wise, Lorie Whitaker, Lisa (Edward) Rich and Rhonda (Mike) Bradburn; brother, Gerald Whitaker; sisters, Patty Vincent and Mayrene Brown; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
