Obituary of Nilah Stanfield

Nilah A. Orr Stanfield 90, passed away on Monday morning, December 21, 2009. She was born on March 29, 1919 in Indianapolis where she lived her entire life. She was the daughter of Leland Orr and Ada Orr. She married her sweetheart Albert Stanfield on Oct. 28, 1936. They were married 37 years until his death in 1974. She was the best Mom anyone could have as well as Grandma, Great Grandma and Great Great Grandma. She was an avid fisherman twice winning a local Senior Classic fishing tournament. She and Dad spent almost all their vacations fishing somewhere. She loved to read and work crossword puzzles. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Euchre with her friends at Hawthorne Community Center and at Lakeview Village, where she lived and she did not like to lose as anyone will tell you. She attended Charity Baptist Church. She retired from Wm. H. Block Co. and later worked at Fannie Mae Candies in Lafayette Square. She was preceded in death by husband, Albert, her parents, sister Frances Meixner and brothers Robert Orr and Oscar Orr. She is survived by son, Thomas G. Stanfield (Annie), daughters Betty Lou Danz (Frank) and Nilah K. Brandenburg (Thomas); grandchildren David Danz, Frank Danz (Kitty), Thomas Danz (Margi), Andy Stanfield, Shelley Witham (Matt), Dawn Brandenburg and Vickie Couch. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. We will all miss her terribly but we know she is in heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Visitation will be TODAY, Tues. Dec. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary and Family Center, 5520 W. 10th St. and the funeral will be there on Wed. at 1 p.m. www.stevensmortuary.net
