Evelyn Joyce Layton, 91, of Indianapolis passed away on March 11, 2017. Evelyn was born in Indianapolis on October 10, 1925 to Harry and Cora (Brittan) Shaffer, both preceding her in death. In 2010, she was also preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Paul C. Layton. Evelyn graduated Ben Davis High School in 1943. She was a member of the Bridgeport Eastern Star and Lynhurst Baptist Church. Evelyn was a Westside Indianapolis resident for 91 years. Her charitable heart lent her talents to those in need, and Evelyn had hand-made over 350 Chemo hats for patients at Hendricks Regional Hospital Cancer Center. She loved to play cards, crochet, knit, sew, bowl and paint. Evelyn often told one of her favorite memories was in 2003, when she won Best of Show in Crochet at the Indiana State Fair. Evelyn is survived by her children, Linda (Ron) Pfost, Cora (James) Johnson, Alan (Alice) Layton; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. She loved to spend quality time with her loving family and often shared the best advice - “When you get mad or upset with someone, don’t stay that way, Life goes on!”
