Obituary of Isabelle R. McClellan

Isabelle Ruth McClellan, 101, of Indianapolis (formerly of South Bend, IN), passed away on November 04, 2016. She was born to Louis Carl and Mary Ella (Aultenberger) Knott on October 03, 1915, in South Bend. Isabelle graduated from Madison Twp. High School and post-graduate Business School prior to being employed in the insurance industry. She was married in South Bend to her husband, Carl H. McClellan of 47 years, until his passing in 1990. Isabelle grew up on the family farm in South Bend with her three sisters Gertrude, Allene, and Beulah, and father Louis Knott after the passing of her mother when Isabelle was 7 years old. Isabelle had been very active member in her church, Faith United Methodist (formerly All-Saints E.U.B.) in South Bend, and a dedicated member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church since moving to Indianapolis in 1996. She was an avid singer who sang in the Faith Methodist Church choir for 50 years. She was instrumental in starting a Mother’s Chorus at the grade school where her children attended, and the Chorus continued to perform within the community for organizations and civic groups long after the children graduated. Isabelle was a long-time volunteer with the St. Joseph County Hospice and at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. She is survived by her daughter Carlene Stringer and husband David of Indianapolis; a son Lee McClellan and wife Nancy of Evansville; grandchildren Christopher Stringer of Tucson, Megan (David) Cohn of Nashville TN, Matthew (LaRissa) McClellan of Tampa, and Amanda (Cory) Brunson of Newburgh, IN; great-grandchildren Grisman Stringer of Tucson, Emma and Asher Cohn of Nashville TN, Mirella and Marissa McClellan of Tampa, and Briley and Jaxton Brunson of Newburgh.
