Obituary of Joanne Grogan

Joanne Grogan, 67 passed away on January 11, 2020. Joanne was born on October 21, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA to George William Shoemaker and Jean Grant Davis. Joanne was a caring and devoted mother, grandmother, memaw and Gigi; she was a loyal family woman and caregiver to many. The last 32 years she proudly raised her beloved handicapped grandson, as her son, her "Butterball" providing him a life of normalcy and love. Joanne enjoyed sewing, knitting, needle point and crocheting. She had a special fondness for music, mostly oldies and country music. She loved dancing, especially the Bristol Stomp. Joanne enjoyed playing cards and later her iPad games. Joanne enjoyed attending state fairs and festivals; she loved nature and would often bird watch. She loved movies, especially scary ones. Joanne was proud of her Irish Catholic heritage. She was an incredible cook, her famous dishes will be sorely missed. No one will ever forget how much she enjoy the holidays, decorating for each and every one, even green mashed potatoes for St. Patrick's day. Joanne will be remembered for the beautiful, outspoken, tenacious, vivacious woman she was and her crystal blue ice eyes. She was a fighter, surviving breast cancer in 2009. She was strong, she was giving and would sacrifice anything for those she loved. She will be greatly missed and her memories cherished always. Joanne is survived by her children; Joann (Ron) Simes, Robert (Sugar) Grogan, Bettina (Joseph) Zelonis, Joseph Grogan, Stephanie DiCecco and Bettina Jurimas; grandchildren, Joseph (Alisha) Jackson Jr., Amber Jackson, De'ana Grogan, RJ Grogan, Brandon (Kate) Grogan, John Morgan, Angel Hopkins and Patrick Egan; great grandchildren, Joseph Jackson lll, Connor Jackson, Brian Gizinski, Joshua Bowers, Nathan Johnson, Teagan Johnson, Declan Gotwalt and Abigail Grogan; sister, Charmaine Gibbs; nephew, George Shoemaker; niece, Jennifer Shoemaker; many other nieces, nephews and extended family. Joanne is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse C. Grogan in 1997; her granddaughter, Jessica Taylor Grogan and nephew, Ethan Shoemaker.
