Harold ‘Gene’ Hemelgarn, 85, of Indianapolis passed away on December 23, 2016. Gene was born in Indianapolis on November 16, 1931 to Harold and Alma Hemelgarn. Gene proudly served his country in the Unites States Navy, in the Korean War. He worked as an accountant for Coca-Cola for 40 years, he also worked for the Indiana Pacers for 40 years and the Indianapolis Colts for 25 years. He worked many years of service for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the month of May. Gene and his wife Evelyn are charter members of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Gene leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn; daughters Jackie (Mike) Murphy, Donna (Joe) Fischer; grandsons, Josh Murphy, Jakob Fischer; granddaughters, Colleen Murphy and Shannon (Noah) Pusey and five great grandchildren. Visitation will be held, Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th Street, Indianapolis from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 6000 W. 34th Street, Indianapolis with a visitation from 9:00 AM until the start of Mass.
