Mary Gertrude Carson, 87, died peacefully June 18, 2013 at the Little Sisters of the Poor - St. Augustine's Home. Among the many, Mary's most special gifts were her genuine compassion for others, as well as the example of faith she was to all by the way she lived her life. She served as a special education teacher for more than 40 years at St. Mary Child Center and was completely devoted to each and every one of her students. Additionally, she was a "favorite aunt" to her more than 100 nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret Carson; brothers John, Thomas, James (Isabelle) and William Carson; sisters Rosemary (Tony) Igel, Patricia (Joe) Striby, and Margaret Carson. She is survived by her brother Alfred (Dorothy) Carson and sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Carson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 22nd in the Little Sisters of the Poor - St. Augustine's Home, with prior visitation from 10:00am until 11:00am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their utmost gratitude to the Little Sisters of the Poor and the staff at St. Augustine's for their extraordinary care of Mary, especially in the last 6 months of her life.
