Obituary of Edward Cmehil
We joyfully celebrate the life of Edward Andrew Cmehil, fondly known as Big Eddie or Papaw by his loved ones. Born on December 29, 1969, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Eddie was a larger than life person who impacted every person he talked to. When he walked into a room, people gravitated towards his infectious humor and personality. He lifted everyone up around him and made you feel like you were the most important person in the world when he talked to you.
Football was core to Eddie’s life. He coached CYO football at St. Michael for 22 years, winning 8 City Championships in the process. He touted himself as the best middle linebacker to ever go through Ritter High School, and spent his Sundays watching the Cowboys with his family.
Each May, he made his way to his favorite place on Earth, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He was a proud business owner of EAC Communications and spent his free time taking care of his lawn, grilling out for his family, and spending time with his family. Family meant everything to Big Ed and he prided himself on his 9 children’s successes.
Since his first grandkid in 2020, Eddie’s life completely revolved around his grandchildren. They were his greatest pride and joy and he told everyone how happy they made him.
Eddie is survived by his mother, Bernadine Cmehil, his loving wife, Amy, their children; Eddie (Carley), Sydney (Nick P), Courtney (Nick C), Jeffrey (Melanie), Maggie, Emma, Anthony, Matthew, and Max, and their grandchildren; Everly, Vivian, Tommy, Raelyn, Russell, Knox, Maddie, and baby girl Cmehil (soon to be born). He is also survived by his siblings Mike (Diane) Cmehil, Kathy Cmehil, Donnie (Ginger) Cmehil, Bernadette (Jason) Beaman, and Melissa (James) Bolen.
He now joins his father, Edward Cmehil, and his son, Andrew Cmehil, in Heaven.
In these moments of sorrow, let's remember Eddie for his funny anecdotes, his charismatic personality, and most importantly, his unwavering dedication to his family and work. As we bid farewell to our dear Edward, we remember him not with tears of sorrow but with laughter and joy, for that's the legacy he left us with.
We encourage everyone who knew Eddie to share their favorite memories and photos of him on his memorial page. It will offer great comfort to the family and a wonderful way to remember Ed, the man who touched so many lives with his dedication, compassion, and charisma.
A memorial fund will be held at the National Bank of Indianapolis. Checks can be made out to “Ed Cmehil Memorial Fund” and dropped off any branch or mailed to Ed Cmehil Memorial Fund, C/O National Bank of Indianapolis, One American Square, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46282.
