Obituary of David Michael Britton
David M. Britton passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. David was born on April 1, 1967, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Norman and Mary Britton.
David, fondly known as Dave, was curious from childhood, collecting new hobbies and skills throughout his life. His passion for cars led him to a fulfilling career as a mechanic at Amoco, Miller Auto Care, and most recently, at the USPS where he made many friends and retired after over a decade of service. His nimble fingers danced not only on the engines and parts of vehicles but also on the strings of his guitar, filling the walls of Chapel Rock Christian Church with inspirational music as a member of their worship band. He also participated in the Single Moms Oil Change program each year, extending his mechanical expertise and kind heart to those in need. He was generous and would happily assist someone in need, and Dave would never ask for anything in return. With a joke always at the ready, Dave had an uncanny ability to find humor in the everyday, bringing joy and laughter to all who knew him. He was a man of great faith and a pillar in his community.
Dave's love and pride for his family were evident in his every action. A devoted father to Andrew and Taylor, he reveled in the joy of fatherhood, often declaring that it was his greatest achievement. The arrival of his grandson, Samuel, added another layer of joy to his life, filling his phone and conversations with adorable pictures and amusing anecdotes. Dave appreciated all the small parts of life and never shied away from being his authentic, quirky self. After his diagnosis of esophageal cancer in November 2024, Dave never lost his humor or joy in life. He continued to attend concerts and events with friends and family, and he chose a positive attitude over allowing his struggles overtake him.
Dave is survived by his children Andrew Britton (Bailey) and Taylor Britton, his mother Mary Britton, and his siblings Julie Whitlow (Doug) and Daniel Britton. He is preceded in death by his father, Norman Britton.
As we remember Dave, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a spirit that continues to inspire. Visitation will take place at Chapel Rock Christian Church on Sunday, April 26, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Rock Christian Church and Little Red Door Cancer Agency.
