Dawna McAtee

August 27, 1964 - April 12, 2026

Obituary

Dawna Lee McAtee (Troy), age 61, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, to be with God in Heaven. She was born on August 27, 1964, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Her family later relocated to Belleville, Indiana, where she graduated from Cascade High School.

Dawna was a very active individual who loved riding horses (especially Bugsy), playing softball, golfing, and enjoying other outdoor activities. She was a caring and loving mother. Her true passion was cooking, and she could often be found immersed in cookbooks or watching the Food Network, always searching for new recipes or planning the next holiday feast. A well-known family saying was, “Dawna could cook a cardboard box, and it would be absolutely delicious!”

Dawna worked at Langsdale Recycling, Mallory Corporation, and eventually Eli Lilly, where she later retired in 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Marcia Troy. She is survived by her children, Kathryn (Katie) Lynne and Tyler Steven McAtee; her grandson, Easton; her former husband, Andrew (Andy) McAtee; her brothers, J.D. and Donald Troy; and the extended McAtee family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 with a memorial gathering from 2:00 PM until time of service.

Dawna was a wonderful sister, growing up we had many a great adventure and too many good times to list. She so loved to cook, I can still taste the BBQ meatballs, she always had them as a appetizer. I still remember the day Katie was baptized, Dawna bragging how Tyler beat Andy at golf. Love you and miss you sis. Sending love and prayers to her family.

I lived in Houston so I didn’t see Dawna as much as I’d like to. Dawna will be missed. We all miss her cooking! She was a very fun person, Mother & friend. She was a terrific addition to the McAtee Family. Godspeed Dawna

My sincere condolences to her family. Sending prayers for peace and comfort. I remember when she and I worked on the school newspaper together. She was a great photographer. I appreciated when she taught me to develop the film to print photographs for the newspaper together. Such a sweet person. My maiden name was Hughes.

I’m so very sorry to hear this news. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Dawna and I became friends in our neighborhood. We lost touch over the years after graduation. We had some fun times.
