Obituary of Ronald L. Maschino
Ronald Lee Maschino recently passed away on February 7, 2026. He was born July 9, 1938 to Theodore and Clara (Miller) Maschino. Ronnie was a hard worker with a strong work ethic, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a man fiercely loyal to his word. He was the first in his family to graduate high school. He graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis. With encouragement from his older brother, Perry, Ronnie was appointed into service with the Indianapolis Firefighters on 01/01/1962 and faithfully served until his retirement on 01/24/1984. He always said this was the best decision he made. He was promoted to Chauffer Engine 18. He was a member of the Retired Indianapolis Firefighters Club and attended countless retiree breakfasts and luncheons over the years following retirement, which brought him great pleasure. On his days he was not serving at the firehouse, he worked for Rayco Machine Shop. While employed at the machine shop, he independently learned the craft and grew into an accomplished Honer known for his precision. He also drove for Sysco Foods.
Ronnie had a love for all animals, especially his companion and friend, Bella. He enjoyed all types of racing but especially Nascar Racing. He cherished the time he spent with his sister, Betty. They had “coffee time” every single morning together until he could no longer drive. They went to auctions, VFW as well as many road trips with Diamond Tours. They traveled to Montana, Florida, Maine and Amish country in Pennsylvania.
Those who knew Ronnie will remember his warm heart, love of telling stories and the way he made people feel welcomed in his home. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by daughters, Jill (Brad) Silver and Julie (David) Bauguess, their mother Janet (Maschino) Jackson and sister Betty Roush. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Maschino, brothers Perry “Sonny” Maschino, Earl Maschino, Everett Maschino and sister Norma (Maschino) Hicks. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Emily (Zach) Richardson, Zach (Abi) Bauguess, Josh (Emily) Silver, Hannah (Jay) Stutzman and Stacy (Isaac) Sampen. Ronnie was also blessed with eleven great grandchildren.
Special thanks to daughter Jill and son-in-law Brad who faithfully served as IT specialists, care giver, maintenance worker, housekeeping and laundry, transportation, financial advisor, activity director and companions. They lovingly served Ronnie over the past years as his dementia progressed. Family also offers heartfelt thanks to his faithful childhood friend, colleague and Chief, Dick Van Sant who led Ronnie to pray for the Lords Salvation in 2022. They would also like to thank Cheryl, staff at Hickory, staff at the Healthcare Center and Hospice at Hoosier Village for their care, compassion and dignity they provided to Ronnie in his final days. Arrangements are being made by Stevens Mortuary. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to both Stevens and the Firefighters Union for their compassionate guidance and care during this difficult time.
