Legend Gardfrey

Obituary of Legend King Gardfrey

Legend King Gardfrey began his life 26 weeks early on December 28, 2023, in Indianapolis, IN, to Talishia Gardfrey and Lemel Gardfrey. The Lord called him home on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Legend was part of a big family of 10, with loving parents Talishia and Lemel Gardfrey, and he leaves behind eight loving siblings: Tori Harper & Chase Webster, Tristen Miller & Laqueesha Mays, Tierney Campbell, Jeremiah Campbell, Brielle Gardfrey, Lameia Gardfrey, Judge Gardfrey, and Makalay Jackson. He was also an uncle to Jahari Mays with an abundance of cousins. He is lovingly remembered by his grandparents, Tiwana Jakes, Sherry Davis, Tawanda Gardfrey, Cedric Miller, and Kelly Jones. He is also survived by his loving uncles Lamonte Brazelton, Albert Bostic, and Wesley Gardfrey; loving aunts Candace Gardfrey, Erika Bond, Lateina Bostic, and Tenaya Harris; great-grandparent Delores Johnson; and great-aunt Takyla Johnson. He was preceded in death by Melvin Gardfrey. Legend was a bundle of joy with a kind-spirited attitude. He always knew how to get your attention and let you know what he wanted when he wanted it. He began his life as a baby at Riley Children’s Hospital, spending a total of 10 months hospitalized before he was finally able to come home to be held and cared for by his family. He was a fighter from the moment he was born—something no one could ever take away from him was his will to fight. From fighting for his life for 10 months at Riley, to fighting to grab the TV remote to find SpongeBob and Elmo for himself on television. Legend showed strength in everything he did. He was a jack of all trades, making monumental achievements in his life, including walking for the first time on Thanksgiving, November 27, 2025. To this day, we believe it was the smell of delicious food that gave him the urge to stand and take his first real steps. Legend was a brilliant baby. He understood sign language and practiced it himself. Some of his favorite things were Ms. Rachel, SpongeBob, and Elmo’s World—educational programs that contributed to his success. He was always a “jealous baby,” happiest in his mom’s arms. Legend leaves behind special memories for all of his family and everyone who had the opportunity and pleasure of coming into contact with him. We would like to thank all hospital personnel from Riley Children’s Hospital and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital for providing the utmost care for him during his times of need. Today, we celebrate his life and legacy, knowing his spirit lives on in a beautiful place where we will all be reunited as one.
