Obituary of James D. Ingalls Jr. "Jingles"
James D. Ingalls, Jr. "Jingles", a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, in his hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana, the same city where he welcomed the world with open arms on January 30, 1968. His zest for life and his infectious laughter left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born to the late James D. Ingalls, Sr. and Barbara S. Ingalls, James grew up in a loving home filled with warmth and joy. His life was a testament to the values of family and community that were instilled in him from a young age. He is predeceased not only by his parents but also by his son, James D. Ingalls III. James's legacy continues through his devoted wife, Glenda L. Ingalls; his loving daughter Miko Pearcy and her husband Cody; his sisters, Michelle Klinge and Dottie L. Rau; step daughters Katie Henderson (Robert Wolfe) and Chloe Henderson (Otis L Flinchum) and his cherished grandchildren, Jaiden, Aria, Michael, Brentley, Charleigh, and Cirklynn who is due any day, who will miss their "Papa" deeply.
James's extended family was a reflection of his expansive heart. He was a beloved uncle to Christa, William and his wife Raeann, James, Michael and his wife Melissa, Melissa, and Zachary and his wife Haley. His 12 great-nieces and nephews, along with one great-great-nephew, brought him immense joy. The family tree's roots were strong, with his grandparents, the late Floyd and Mary Hatcher, and Walter and Nela Roemer, providing a foundation of love and resilience. His aunts, Debbie Schwecke and her husband Fred, Lou-Ann Roemer, and Theresa Hatcher, along with his uncles, the late Tony Hatcher and his wife April, and Gary Hatcher, also survive him. James's 13 cousins, spread across the United States, will fondly remember their family gatherings.
James was a man of service, dedicating 18 years to the MCSD/IMPD Police Department. His commitment to protecting and serving the community was unwavering, and he carried the same dedication into his work for Riley Hospital for Children and American Legion Post 497. A graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, James's professional life was marked by integrity, bravery, and a deep-seated desire to make a difference.
Outside of his professional and family life, James had a passion for the open road, often found riding his Harley, the wind in his hair and a smile on his face. His love for the legendary rock band K.I.S.S. was only matched by his ability to bring joy into any room he entered. James's humor and spirit were his gifts to the world, and his belief that life was meant to be lived fully, with hard work and determination, was an inspiration to all.
To say that James was loving, funny, and friendly is an understatement; he was the epitome of these words. His love was unconditional, his humor was a beacon of light, and his friendliness knew no bounds. He leaves behind countless memories filled with laughter, pride, and love—memories that his family and friends will treasure forever.
James's humor, spirit, and love of life will continue to live on through his legacy. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take solace in the knowledge that his influence will be felt for generations to come. James D. Ingalls, Jr.'s story is one of love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. He will be deeply missed, but the mark he left on this world will never be forgotten.
