Obituary of Margaret Ann Steinsberger

Margaret "Peg" Steinsberger, a steadfast beacon of love and service, departed this world on December 11, 2025, in Indianapolis, IN. Born on October 6, 1936, in Owensboro, KY, Peg's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and selfless dedication to others.

Peg was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, James J. "Jim" Steinsberger, who passed away in 1999. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children, Karen (Tom) Emmerson, Rick (Mary) Steinsberger, and Amy (Tim) Brown; her cherished grandchildren, Erin Steinsberger, Lucas Emmerson, Spencer Brown, and Halle Brown; and her adored great-grandchildren, Hailey Steinsberger, Ben Mulkey, Hannah Mulkey, McKenzi Floyd, and Jimmy Evans. Peg's sisters, Marilyn Osborne and Clara Sue Downs, sister-in-law Cloa Thompson, and a host of nieces and nephews will also hold her memory dear.

Peg's professional journey was marked by her compassionate spirit and dedication to geriatric nursing. Beginning her nursing career in 1957, Peg's innate leadership and expertise led her to Lakeview Manor in 1969. There, she became a pivotal figure in geriatric care, rising from staff nurse to Director of Education. Peg played an instrumental role with the Indiana State Department of Health, contributing to the development of the state's first procedures for nursing assistants and establishing the certification criteria for the profession. She culminated her illustrious career as the Director of Nursing at Lakeview Manor, retiring in 2007 after touching countless lives through her work.

A devout Christian, Peg was an active member of St. Christopher parish, embodying the love of Christ through her service. She volunteered tirelessly at the annual festival, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and provided sustenance for the funeral committee. Her commitment to her faith was matched by her passion for the PEO Sisterhood, where she mentored women and supported their educational aspirations.

Peg's life was a living example of the well-known scripture, "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23). Her faith-filled existence, selflessness, and loving nature were the cornerstones of her being. She walked through life with grace and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.

As we bid farewell to Margaret "Peg" Steinsberger, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that will continue to inspire. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will live on through the many lives she touched. May she rest in the eternal peace of the Lord's embrace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:15 AM, Monday, December 22, 2025 at St. Christopher Catholic Church 5301 W. 16th Street Indianapolis, IN 46224, with visitation from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
