Obituary of Isaac Monroe Brown, Jr.
Isaac Monroe "Ike" Brown, Junior
A Life Well Lived:
“A journey marked by purpose, strength, and grace”
Isaac Monroe Brown Junior, affectionately known as “Ike” was born on Tuesday, January 9, 1951, in Owensboro, Kentucky, and transitioned peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Ascension Saint Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 74.
Family Roots and Early Life
“The heritage and upbringing that grounded his life”
Ike was the eldest of five children born to the late Isaac Monroe Brown Senior and Minnie (Crowe) Brown. He was also preceded in death by his aunt and uncle, Henry Kermit and Frances Brown—who nurtured, guided, and raised him as their own. Ike gave the preacher his hand and God his heart, first joining Tenth Street Missionary Baptist Church in Owensboro, Kentucky, and later Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. His siblings include three sisters: Lelia (Joe) Taylor, Jr. of Owensboro, Kentucky, Patricia (Anthony) Jones of Indianapolis, Indiana and Clesta Lanita Compton of Rockport, Indiana, and two brothers: William Henry Greer of Owensboro, Kentucky and James Arthur Greer of Stuttgart, Germany. Raised in a time marked by the end of World War II and the advent of color television, Ike’s early years were shaped by significant societal changes. Growing up in a period of monumental change, he was shaped by early experiences that forged the tenacious spirit he would carry for a lifetime.
Cornerstone of Tenacity
“A spirit forged in perseverance and unshakable resolve”
Ike’s life was defined by unwavering determination and a clear, grounded sense of identity. His relentless pursuit of excellence in athletics and his steadfast resolve to chart his own path were hallmarks of his character. These qualities served him well not only on the field, but in every endeavor, he embraced throughout his life.
Distinguished Athletic Career
“A legacy of excellence written on fields across the nation”
Ike’s athletic prowess led him to become an All-American professional football player. He was drafted by the New England Patriots as a running back and played for various teams, including the Richmond Roadrunners | Richmond Saints, Roanoke Buckskins, and the Montreal Alouettes in Canada. Notably, he was named to the CFL East All-Star team in 1972 and was selected in the NFL draft in 1973 as the 8th round, 186th overall pick. Ike attended Owensboro Senior High School and Western Kentucky University where his abilities garnered recognition and set the stage for a distinguished football career.
Dedication to the Canine Community
“Transforming passion into purpose—one loyal companion at a time”
After retiring from professional football, Ike channeled his passion and commitment into his business, Kaleidoscope Kennel. As a member of the Terre Haute Kennel Club, he provided exceptional customer service and fostered loyalty among Doberman enthusiasts and families for over two decades. Ike’s approach to dog breeding was marked by acute, targeted care and a proven individualized placement program. He curated a selective breeding process to ensure ideal temperament, size, and quality in Dobermans, spanning all five recognized colors: Black, Blue, Fawn, Red, and White.
The dogs he raised and loved—Diablo, Taz, Nikita, Maya, Cali, Ebony, and Keesha—reflected his devotion.
Legacy and Family
“The family he cherished and the legacy he leaves behind”
Ike’s legacy includes six daughters: Candace Brown of Roanoke, Virginia, Nicole (Bryan A.) James of Dallas, Texas, Rosalind Brown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Alexis (Christopher) Rogers of Plymouth, Minnesota, Shajuana Davis of Dallas, Texas and Whitney (Derrion) Lowe of Atlanta, Georgia.
