Obituary of Ona Elizabeth Weddle

Ona Elizabeth McClain Weddle was known as Betsy by her family and many friends.  She was born on September 24, 1947 to Julian and Bonnie McClain.  Betsy departed this life on October 8, 2025 at 78 years of age.  She had one dear brother, Richard.

Betsy graduated from Warren Central High School in 1965.  Betsy met Larry Weddle, the love of her life, one Thanksgiving eve while she was out with one of Larry’s friends.  Larry was not shy about pursuing this classy, “spunky little gal” – and they were married in April of 1977.  Together they raised and loved their family:  sons Jeff Keen (Deana) and Scott Keen (Yvonne); grandchildren John, William, Adam, Molly, Christopher, Aaron, Cameron, Kassaandra, Isaiah, and Jaxson; and great-grandchildren Makayla, Maron, Kason, Amora and Maylee.  Betsy’s family was the center and light of her life.

Over the years Betsy showed her natural gift for drawing people to her.  She shared her ready smile and warm heart with people at work, in her neighborhood, and at St. Christopher Parish.  So many were blessed to have her as a friend.  Betsy was generous in giving of her time and talents to others.  Many children at St. Christopher referred to her as “Grandma Betsy.”  Betsy’s home reflected her gifts of warmth and hospitality.  No matter the season or holiday, the Weddle house was always beautifully decorated, inside and out.  The table was ready at all times with seasonal place settings and décor, and little treats were set out for whoever stopped by for a chat.  Pictures of family and friends were liberally sprinkled on shelves and tables throughout the Weddle home.

Betsy dealt with struggles and health issues throughout her life by relying on her deep faith.  This “little spunky gal” was a very strong woman.  At the age of 70, when many folks would enjoy putting their feet up in retirement, Betsy decided to enroll in a program through Vincennes University.  She graduated with her certification as a medical assistant.  She used this as yet another opportunity to help others, this time in home health care.

In Betsy’s last years dealing with illness and pain, she remained the classy, spunky little gal she always had been – concerned about Larry and her family, visiting with many friends, and relying on God’s love to bring her peace.
