Obituary

William M. Stafford, known to family and friends as “Mike,” age 77, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025.

Mike was born on June 30, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to George and Aline (Gregory) Stafford, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1966 and married the love of his life, Mary Patricia “Patty” (Enslin) Stafford, on December 11, 1970.

Mike proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. He went on to build a 45-year career with NAPA Auto Parts, where his hard work, loyalty, and friendship left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Known for his practical jokes and his deep love for family, friends, and sports, Mike had a special talent for bringing people together. He loved hosting gatherings for sporting events—especially March Madness—and could always be found cheering on his kids and grandkids at their games and school events.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law, Earl and Jane (McGauley) Enslin; his niece, Tracy Jones; and his granddaughter, Faith Stafford.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patty; his three children, Melanie (Chris) Almeras, Chris (Mary) Stafford, and Chad (Stephanie) Stafford; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Rita), Trace (Nicole), Hayden, Cole, Tristan, Aubrey, Reagan, and Nick; five great-grandchildren, Noah, Caroline, Scott, Josie, and Coco; his sisters, Sharon (Dan) Perry, Brenda (Dan) Wood, and brother Randy; and five nieces and nephews, Tyler, DJ, Brandi, Connor, and Abby.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Indianapolis Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital, Greenwood Healthcare Center, and all of Mike's friends and family for their love and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Mike's memory.

Mike was always there for the people who worked under him. Always had a smile for you or a joke and had no favorites. Mike and Patty was involved in the NAPA Fun Bunch where we would go skiing and other fun things. I will miss him.

I remember working at Napa and if I made a mistake, Mike came around to tell you and he was serious, I would just say I'm sorry. Then as I started dating Joe and getting used to the Napa crowd, we had so much fun it's girls softball, I was a catcher and the only thing I had on was sunglasses to protect my face and then Mike said I ran like a moose, lol. When I called him carp, he called me carpette, lol. Joe and I were back in town August of 2025 and it had been over 20 years for our visit to everyone. We were blessed to see him and will always have fond memories of our friendship together, thanks Mike for being in our world, we will miss your calls, rest in peace our friend.
