Obituary of Mack Bentz Jr.
Mack Bentz, Jr., age 91, died on May 29, 2025 in Indianapolis. Mack was born in Indianapolis in 1933 and moved to Noblesville, IN, at age 10, where his parents opened the Bentz Grocery. He grew up in Noblesville and graduated from Noblesville High School in 1951. He was drafted into the army after graduation and served for a time in South Korea.
In 1952, Mack took a job at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, where he was to spend the next 40 years. He held a variety of positions at Allison’s over the years, including foreman and general foreman. He retired in 1992 and started a second career at AMG, a manufacturing company in Indianapolis, where he worked part-time for 15 years and was able to draw on the experience and skills he had learned at Allison’s.
Mack was a devoted family man and enjoyed a loving, decades-long marriage to his wife Sue, who passed away in 2009. They had two children, Debbie and Joe, and two grandchildren, Jacob and Katie, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mack and Sue loved family gatherings and socializing with friends at their favorite restaurants in Indianapolis. They took many trips to California to visit their grandchildren over the years.
One of Mack’s favorite hobbies was old cars, and in earlier years he could often be found at car shows across Indiana. He restored his own 1951 Chevy and brought it to many shows.
Mack Bentz was a beloved man and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his daughter Debbie, son-in-law Larry, son Joe Bentz, daughter-in-law Peggy Bentz, and grandchildren Jacob Bentz and Katie Bentz. His funeral will take place on Monday, June 9, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the funeral service at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow.
