Obituary of Harriett June Banich

Harriett June Banich, age 85, of Brownsburg, passed away peacefully at home with her loved ones Monday, January 20, 2025. She was born August 4, 1939, in Shelbyville, IN as the youngest of 8 children to the late Jonathan Everett and Florence Thelma Grinstead.
She graduated from Plainfield High School and began working for Methodist Hospital as an executive assistant for the school of nursing, with over 18 years of service. Harriett was a staple at the Brownsburg ball field while her children played sports. She regularly was seen running the concession stands of numerous events. She had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh and made a lasting impact of her passionate take on life. Harriett enjoyed the Christmas season as she spent time with family and loved ones. With her husband, Harold, they traveled across the country visiting family along the way. Her hobbies included crocheting, all things Christmas, popcorn, playing cards, dominating the scrabble board, Yahtzee, bingo, and volunteering at the Moose Lodge 500. Harriett was known for having an unforgettable memory including all family history and facts. Harriett’s love of animals was constant and abundant in her life, especially alongside her dog Moose.
Harriett was affectionately known as, mother, granny, great-grandmother, and aunt, had a loving and contagious spirit that affected all that encountered her. Her journey on earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.
Harriett is survived by her son, Chaplain T. Scott and Liz Schuesler, of Jacksonville, FL, her daughter, Erika and Rodney Martin, of Brownsburg, IN, son, Robert and Marita Dobrik of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Christopher Shaun and Kristie Schuesler, of Kalamazoo, MI, Sean and Christina Martin, of Shelbyville, IN, Aaron and Jessica Wages, of Jacksonville, FL, Ambria and Braden Steinberger, of Lawrence, KS, Kevin Dobrik of Brownsburg, IN, Tristin Martin of Lawrence, KS, Steven Dobrik of Kirn, Germany; great-grandchildren, Taylor Schuesler, Avery Schuesler, of Kalamazoo, MI, Trevor and Abbi Martin, of Anderson, IN, Garrett Steinberger, of Lawrence, KS, Tyler Petrotta of Wuppertal, Germany, along with numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Harriett was preceded in death by her husband Harold Banich, sisters, Laura Weinantz and husband, Jean, Rosanna “Rosie” Fuchs and husband, Delbert, Mary Wells and husband, Everett, Willa Hicks and husband, Malcolm, brothers, Sherrill Grinstead, Robert Grinstead and wife, JoAnn, John Grinstead and wife, Faye.

Although Harriett's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.
