Aldo Andretti

February 28, 1940 - December 30, 2020

Obituary

Aldo Andretti passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, eleven months after losing his son John to colon cancer. Aldo was born February 28, 1940 in Montona, Italy to Alvise “Gigi” and Rina (Benvengnu) Andretti. Aldo and his family emigrated to the United States in 1955. He and his twin brother, Mario, went on to become the start of the greatest racing dynasty in history. Aldo forever shared a passion for racing and was a true motor enthusiast and entrepreneur. He could often still be found on the racing circuit supporting and following the careers of his family. Aldo co-owned and operated Andretti Firestone in Speedway and Crawfordsville, Indiana for many years, but his pride and joy was his precision screw machine shop, Aldo Andretti Machine and Engineering. Aldo was also a strong supporter of our troops. Perhaps the proudest day of his life was the day he flew test maneuvers in an F-15 fighter jet. Above all, Aldo loved his family and instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of supporting one another. He also instilled the importance of maintaining an immaculate car and keeping your fingerprints off the windows. Aldo was preceded in death by his sister Anna Maria Burley and his beloved son and buddy, John Andretti. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years Carolyn “Corky” (Stofflet); children Carolyn (Scott) Molander, Mark (Diane) Andretti, Mary Jo (Bobby) Dial, and Adam (Tabitha) Andretti; and John's widow Nancy (Summers) Andretti. Aldo is also survived by 11 grandchildren. *UPDATE - The date has change from the original publication. Visitation will be held at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN on Tuesday, January 12 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, January 13 at St Malachy Catholic Church 9833 E County Road 750 N Brownsburg, IN at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Malachy Cemetery Brownsburg, IN.
