Obituary of Martha Christine Harrington

Martha C. Harrington, 94, of Indianapolis passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. She was born in Brandenburg, KY on April 28, 1925 to William and Mary Mudd. She married Howard Harrington on August 2, 1952.

Martha loved her family and she adored her grandson Luke. Her youngest girl always traveled for work. So, her mother and father raised Luke until he was 12 years old. She was crushed when she took him away. Martha also loved her home and gardens. She planted oriental poppies, all different types of lilies, peonies, climbing roses, tea roses and ferns. She loving tended those flowers. She had a passion for tennis which she played in her younger years. Never missed watching Wimbledon, US Open, French Open and several others. Martha really enjoyed dancing. During the summer she would go out dancing on Saturday nights with her husband. What Martha really enjoyed was sunbathing with her romance novels. She could lay in the sun for hours at a time when she could. Martha always told her girls to “Find happiness where ever you can” and “creating happiness for yourself a long the way”.

Martha worked at St. Michaels the Archangel grade school for about twenty years. She was the Head Nutritionist. Retiring at 60. When her husband re-tired she went back to work at L.S. Ayres Lafayette Square in the fashion watches for ten years.

Martha was a real survivor and always tried to make the best out of difficult situations with determination and resilience. Now Martha is in God’s loving arms where she should be.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Harrington of Indianapolis, IN and Margaret Harrington of Fishers, IN; grandson, Luke Pruitt; and great granddaughter, Olive of Fishers, IN. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Mudd; and her husband of 60 years, Howard.
