Obituary of Robert Dial

Robert L. Dial 1922-2018 passed away on January 23rd.  He was the first born child of Leon and Bernetta (Roelle) Dial 95 years ago. When he was a child he was given the opportunity to take accordion lessons from George Storks. As a student he and two other students would warm up the basketball crowds by sliding on their knees across the floors playing the accordions. When he was a teenager he would caddy at the Indianapolis Country Club. That gave him a chance to caddy for some very famous pro golfers. He was liked so well a few of them let him borrow their clubs so he could learn the game.

He was working at Link Belt Corporation when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He and two of his coworkers enlisted in the U S. Marine Corps the very next day. He served in WWII. Upon returning home after the war he resumed his employment with Link Belt/FMC Corporation, retiring from there after 42 years.

He met the love of his life Sylvia Medvesek at a church dance. A year later they were married at Holy Trinity Church. They are the parents of two children Diana and Tom. They were married for 59 years. Their hobby together was ballroom dancing.

Robert enjoyed fixing anything that needed repaired, music, dancing, golf, and bowling. He had many stories to share from all the experiences he had in life. A month before he died he said “I have had a great Life”!

Survivors include daughter Diana/Jack Satkamp, son Thomas Dial, and granddaughter Tiffany/Larry Sloan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, and two brothers Edwin (Bud) Dial

and Floyd (Marty) Dial.

Visitation will be February 1st at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th St. from 4:00 – 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday February 2nd at 11:00 am at Saint Christopher Catholic Church 5301 W. 16th St. Speedway.
