Obituary of Harry D. Williams

Harry D. Williams, Jr. 84, of Speedway, Ind., passed away peacefully at home under the loving care of his wife, Gloria, while surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. Born in Madison, Wisc. on September 11, 1932, son of the late Harry, Sr. and Mary Margaret Elizabeth (O'Toole) Williams. Harry graduated from the University of Wisconsin as a Civil Engineer. He was employed 40 years at the Indiana State Board of Health starting in Water Pollution Control. His strong work ethic & dedication was recognized when he was appointed as the Director of the newly created Air Pollution Control Division. He enjoyed golf, bowling, hunting, fishing, making wine, gardening, traveling, and ballroom dancing. He was in the National Guard, Jaycee's, loyal parishioner of St. Christopher's Church, and was a little league coach for all 3 of his sons. He and Gloria foster-cared infants for many years. He was most proud when all 4 Harry's (Jr., III, IV, and V) were together. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward. Survivors include the "Love of his life" of 60 years, Gloria Georgene (Branger) Williams; siblings, Theodore, Robert, and Mary Jo; children Harry III (Amy), Steven, Craig, Valerie (Cathy) and Brenda; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was quoted saying, "One of my greatest accomplishments in life was raising a good family with my wife, Gloria." Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Stevens Mortuary at 5520 W. 10th St, Indpls. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at St. Christopher’s Church at 5301 W. 16th St, Speedway, IN
