Obituary of James E. Jenks

James Jenks, 82, of Speedway, husband, father, brother, teacher, coach and friend passed away on October 3, 2016. Born 1934 in Chicago to Orra Mack and Ella Cronin Jenks. Jim served honorably and bravely in the U.S. Army, a graduate of Dana High School, Marian College and Indiana State University. Jim married Carol Welsh at Holy Trinity Church in 1959. His teaching and coaching career was at notable schools to include Holy Trinity, Scecina Memorial High School and Cardinal Ritter High School. He was also employed by St. Vincent Hospital. After his retirement in 1996, he was a volunteer for CYO, St. Vincent Hospital, Richard L Roudebush VA Medical Center and Christian Awakening Retreat. He always “walked in God’s shadow.” Jim is survived by wife Carol; daughters, Karen Jenks and Nancy (Fritz) Fentz; grandchildren Howard Scrougham and Rachel Fentz; brother, John and several nephews. He was preceded in death by parents and brother, Bill. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 from 3:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN 46224 with a rosary at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church 3354 W. 30th Street Indianapolis, IN with visitation from 10:00 Am until time of mass. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the VA Medical Center, Dr. Michael Sha, Jennifer, Magali and Andrew.
