Obituary of Carl M. Jechura

Carl M. Jechura, 76, of Avon, Indiana, passed away January 25, 2017. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 1, 1940 to Karl and Lillian Jechura. His younger brother, Jerome, and nephew, Shawn predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathy, and sons, Michael and Matthew. He will be missed by his four nephews Scott and Jonathan Borovich, and Steve and Todd Zumec. Carl graduated from Bloomfield Hills High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1957.He attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor until 1960 and finished his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance at Wayne State University in Detroit. He was Vice President of Teppert Tool and Engineering, a family owned business in Detroit, and had a long career in manufacturing. His early career was spent at the GMTech Center in Detroit. He was then transferred to Cleveland, Ohio in 1968 to work as a process engineer in the M1-Abrams Tank Program at the Military Vehicle Organization. In 1970, he started work at the Allison Gas Turbine Aircraft Engine Division of GM in Indianapolis. He retired in 1999 as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Rolls Royce in Indianapolis. He retired after a 34 year career. Carl enjoyed boating on Michigan inland lakes and at Lake Monroe in Indiana. He was an avid water and snow skier. He coached for several years at Little League Westside Baseball Team and was involved with Indian Guides and Trail Blazers with his two sons. He was the renowned “video guy” at countless weddings of family and friends, and a proud Indy 500 ticket holder for 35 years. He was an U. of M. football fan and had Colt’s season tickets for many years. His large vegetable garden was his pride and joy. He enjoyed organizing his friends for quarterly lunches of the GM Retirement Club. He and his wife, Kathy, were members of several bridge groups. He took seriously his job of 8 years as president of his HOA. Carl will be remembered as a caring friend to many and a devoted and loving husband and father.
